Trubba ? trubba not ?

Hey folks just a quick one really , I just wanted to share my January wips .. a few ideas that have been rattling around my head a while finally came to fruition..

I have been wanting to create a bunch of theatre types for quite  a few years now .. a combination of researching medieval and Greek pageantry  and having  a little background in stage set design . Ridley Walker is the catalyst , recommended to me by a friend a few years back , this book has become a corner stone of my literature. Influencing the mouldy warps and now the first part of a trilogy of  post apocalyptic 40k theatre .

I really wanted to make a bottler too some one who takes the money and works the crowd..
I started a few models and if i finish them i will pop them up.

The professor  or punch man with his stage

okay moving on ..

a dragons call
Getting back to inq28 i remade acolyte Darthur from Inquisitor vendrakes   retinue

I wanted to get away from his grubby look so i dressed him in the finest Garemnts of the Cydonian Nobility and gave him a cydonian slave  guard.

Cydonia is a planet in the phrellian sub that PDH and I came up with a few years back when Commisar Molotov was flesshing out The dhaltus sector .. a real gem of an idea that deserves more consideration from me i think.

Cydonia
Civilised World (Phalanx Planetary System)

A civilised world in the Phalanx system, though considered a pleasure world by the nobles of the system. Those nobles who have also visited Arcturus know it is not even a pale comparison to a real pleasure world.

Members of the Phrellian elite rent vast estates on Cydonia that comprise of beautiful villas, palaces, manicured gardens, slave camps and various heavy industries. The distinct areas of these estates are divided with sound dampening technology and heavily guarded walls. Vulgaris slaves toil away their lives for their uncaring owners. With the vast legions of slaves, millions strong, the PDF are also the planetary enforcers, though generally referred to as slave masters. The PDF are rented to the slave owners in exchange for produce or simply hard currency.

Areas of the planet have been given over for entertainment and the main cities have the best theatres, fighting pits, slave markets and pleasure domes in the sub-sector. Areas of the planet have been turned into vast parklands and hunting grounds, all the entertainment on Cydonia is part owned by the planetary governor.

Those born free and educated on Cydonia are often gifted diplomats. Cydonian diplomats are much sort after and they travel the sector brokering deals for the various cartels, corporations and even between planets.

Until recently Cydonia was ruled by House Kel-Rosber until the entire clan were deposed and executed by Inquisitrix Benadice. The new planetary lord is ????, is heavily influenced by his advisers Navigator House Voltaire. Whispers persist that the navigator house are the power behind the throne and orchestrated the initial investigation into House Kel-Rosber.

You have as many enemies as you have slaves” common Cydonia saying.

and finally i made this just before Christmas , its a terran terra watte technocrat warrior

not sure if any of these will see paint at the present.. and the Punch and Judy box has been tore apart for the chimera bit i used to make it - but i will probably remake that from scratch anyhow.

regards folks

  1. The grimdark puppet theatre is nothing short of miraculous, Neil! Is that a chaos warrior cape used as the curtain? Nuts!
Any plans for a tiny Emprah and Horus having a go at the old Punch and Judy routine? (Oh please!).

Love the techno-barbarian! An excellent use of bitz there?

On a semi-related note, whatever happened to that Khornate champion I liked so much? You didn't tear him apart again, did you?

As always keep up the absolutely amazing work!

  2. Hey Mr Scientist , i was wondering what i could make for his show ..horus and the emperor that would be a truly heretical show ! i just need to get my hands on some epic termies and space marines then ! Yeah two chaos cloaks for the curtain , ( i was particularly;y inspired by this image -

I was unsure about the techno barbarian i really like the idea of pre 30k stuff , I wanted to try and capture that transition of armoured greaves of a thunder warrior look that John blanche illustrated in this

back to a more simple armoured greaves and heavily armoured torso whilst retaining that iconic look .. but using the mk2 style legs was just easier ! i may revisit this model at a later date .

nothing gets passed you with regards to bits ! and never fear your aspiring khornate champion is still here , he may go through a few transformations before paint though , as befitting any chaos devotee .. as soon a i start painting again it will at the top of the list mate ;-)

    regards

  3. The Punch & Judy theatre is great. I don't think those epic models are detailed enough though, you could try warmaster character models perhaps.

The techno barbarian is also really good, I made something similar recently when trying to make my idea of a skitarii - in Dan Abnett's Titanicus (crap book) there is a type of skitarii described as feral and animalistic. That guy would fit the spec.

    1. Hey Mate , I have never owned any epic stuff , or battle fleet gothic stuff either its one of my bug bears that i hope to rectify over the next few years. thanks for the info maybe a familiar or dark angles scenery bit might work ..

I had been researching and putting a lot of thought into the idea of a decline of a civilisation into barbarism after consuming quite a bit of post apoc fiction recently

there is so much potential and free reign for design ideas in pre 30k history .

    2. Hmm, speaking of DA scenery bitz, I should have several of those small robed Angels of Absolution that come as banner tops with just about every DA kit -- if you need one of them for your Punch and Judy show, just let me know, Neil!

    1. Too kind Stefan ! I often struggle with the idea of using potential personal work in the 40k environment . Its so much easier just to enjoy the hobby as it is presented and not deviate to far .. collecting and painting and gaming.. as opposed to trying to be creative . I decided that i could do both this year , enjoy the hobby for what it is and also do a few personal projects that reflect my own science fantasy tropes within 40k.

  5. Hrm… think my comments keep failing to post; lets try again.

Everything about this post is awesome, Neil. So much good stuff, and the theatre in particular is amazing. There's a great Papal glove puppet on one of the Mordheim Zealot Miniatures if you can get your hands on one of those.

  7. Emperor Puppet, "Oh, no, kinderlings, its naughty Horus! And he's got all the sausages!"

Horus, "That's the way you do it!"

Great stuff. The undercarriage on the Punch & Judy booth is a wonderful idea. I really like the dude with the two pistols too.

  8. haha Horuse with his slapstick worldbreaker beating all the primarchs to death --

the emperor chastising him for killing his babies !!

I dont often get compliments on my undercarriage haha cheers ! yeah the dual pistol dude works well , and it would be relatively cheap to make a custom squad of them .. cheers mate.
